I have bad teeth and am afraid to go to the dentist. Help!!?

I have 2 teeth that have broken because they are decaying and I have numerous cavities that need filled. I’m so scared to go to the dentist because the last one I went to was very rough with my mouth. My gums for the most part seem to be fine but I know I have an abscess in one of the teeth that is broken in the back. The other broken tooth is in the front and I really don’t want it pulled because then I will forever be too embarrassed to smile(I already cover my mouth when I laugh because it embarrasses me soo much). One of my biggest fears is losing my teeth and having to get dentures but yet I’m still so scared to go to the dentist because of the pain. I also have no insurance and can’t even afford the work anyway. What do I do??!!!

Reply:Wow there has to be something some doctors do pro bono work, there are charities like operation smile. I think you should look into that but you must go to the dentist

Reply:that sux soo bad. i have bad teeth 2 but i have insurance. i have weak enamel
Reply:please go.My friend is a dentist the more you wait the worse is going to get,Not only that but it will cause bad breath,You dont what that
Reply:suck it up! whats worse, withstanding a few moments of pain or a lifetime of ugly and painful teeth? tell the dentist your fears before hand and he might be esaier on you. ask your friends who they go to.
Reply:Well, the best you can do is try to borrow money from someone like your parents (or other family) if at all possible. Try to see if you have a dental school around you, they do work cheaper but its done by a student, they have a real dentist there though to watch everything they do. Or try going to carecredit.com don%26#039;t know how good your credit is but this is basically a dental loan. Other than that, I don%26#039;t really know what to tell you. And by the way, dentures aren%26#039;t that bad. I had to get dentures just 4 months ago, but it isn%26#039;t as bad as you would think. It all depends on your mindset. I can eat just about anything right now, except for stuff like apples or corn on the cob. But other than that, I can eat everything, without worrying about breaking another tooth. Good Luck.
Reply:I know exactly how u feel. All of my top teeth were bad. All of the enamal had been worn off of my 4 front teeth and the rest had severe decay. I lived this way for 5 years. I never smiled and i avoided laughing and covered my mouth too.

I had a full upper denture put in last week. I was scared too but i just kept thinking that they couldnt put me through any more pain that I had already been through. I was right.

Getting dental work does hurt. The worst part is ths shot of novocaine. Its not even that bad. Think about something positive while this is happening. After that u will feel pressure and its not as intense as people make it out to be, and u will hear creepy noises but it is normal.

These things will help to calm you before going to the dentist. Make sure u get a good nights sleep. Take 800 mg of ibuprohpen 30 minutes before going. Or if u have any vicodin or any pain killers that were givin to you for your teeth take one of those just to make sure that your teeth dont hurt when u get the shot. go to a dentist who provides laughing gas. This really helped me. Also try to think of something positive instead of thinking that u are scared of the dentist. Like how much better you will feel once its all over.

The first step is making a appointment and getting estimates. Then plan from there. Once u know the total cost it will be easier to figure out how to pay for it. Try to find a dentist that charges about 80 per tooth extraction and provides free gas. I saved alot of money here. Some dentists will try to convince u that u need expensive surgery at 400 a tooth. In some cases they are right but not all. Dentists have told me this but I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed on gas alone. No surgery.

Call the salvation army and social services and places like that. They might know if any assistance exists in your area for dental help. There are also free clinics but im not sure if they provide any gas. Try to see if there is a college nearby that does work for cheap or free. On a personal note though, i hate colleges and free clinics, i tried to take this route a long time ago and the ones i tried to go to u cant even make a appointment, its all first come, first serve. so u could find yourself waiting all day like i did for nothing, just disapointment. If none of these things work just start doing what u can little by little. one or two teeth at a time, they didnt pull all of mine at once he wanted me to heal between extractions. It took me 3 months to get them done. See if they will work with you on payments. Ask them if they have any other finance options through banks. Capital one has a program for that.

If u can save your bottom teeth try to do that. Lower dentures are terrible from what im told. they dont stay where they belong.

I hate to see anyone go through this. not being able to smile, laugh, or even have the guts to speak to someone is horrible. Some people can be cruel about it but dont pay them any mind. It just shows what kind of person they really are inside. Best of luck to you.

p.s. sorry for the long response. some things just are not that simple lol. and the spell checker isnt working either.
Reply:the first thing i would do is make an appt with the dental offices hygienist. she will xray and clean your teeth and that same appointment the dentist will examine your entire mouth. explain to them your financial porblems and see if they can help you come up with a plan where you can get one or two cavities done at a time. many people get overwhelmed when they need alot of work but if you do just a little at a time- sometimes it gets the job done - just takes longer. also, explain to them that your last dentist was rough...they have seen this before and will take good care of you.
