I'm on a waiting list to get my teeth straightened, going to need braces and also need to get my jaw broken

im currently on a waiting list at the local hospital to get my teeth straightened, it seems like its going to be quite a big procedure, i need to wear a brace for 18 months then get my top and bottom jaw reset, then get a brace for a further 6 months, it sounds daunting but really want my teeth to be straight, anybody know anybody thats had it done? what the risks are? and how successfull the outcome is? Thanks

Hi,how u?I am a dentist and my advice is talk to your orthodontist about it all.I cant judge without seeing your xrays but your bite is obviously wrong, ie the upper jaw is not in line with the lower.Occasionally this necessitates surgery, as braces alone are insufficient, especially if you are an adult. a 2nd opinion is always advisable.I would talk to past patients of your particular orthodontist, I%26#039;d certainly have the procedure, its outcome, risks, duration and cost written out for me and keep a copy.I%26#039;d want visual images of how my teeth will look, what my options are..

Sorry I cant say more,I%26#039;d need to see your teeth
Reply:I know someone who wear braces. The outcome is really good actually. But she told me that the first few days of having that braces was hell. Her teeth aches, she can%26#039;t eat, and also had a hard time cleaning her teeth.
Reply:sounds like a lot of work and possibly a lot of pain. I know people who have had braces...somewhat painful at times. My ex had his jaw broken...he said that was painful...months of milkshakes.

good luck on getting a nice smile.
Reply:i just asked the question who also has had this as i have just been through it all and 3 months later i am still having a few problems...it was a long hard road i tell you and im not sure if i can say if it was all worth it or not but i must say that i do look a lot different (better and younger im told) . i still cant really chew properly and i get a few weird aches and pains.. btw i had upper and lower surgery... good luck
Reply:i really want the same thing done but your right it sounds like a very long procedure!! have u gotta pay a lot for it?
Reply:the Orthodontist(specialist in this field) is to plan the treatment,to make you understand the treatment procedure, estimated time, prognosis and every pros and cons of it.remember there are so many peculiarities of teeth in different individuals.treatment strategy ,time, prognosis everything changes.so personal experience is little helpful
