For the pain, take some Tylenol to help overall, but if it hurts at the source, try Ambesol as well. It%26#039;s a common pain reliever for teething babies - but most drug stores carry some that is adult strength
Reply:if it hurts take aspirin

far as prevention from further damage

dont eat a rock or anything hard like jolly ranchers
Reply:You can take 3-4 (600-800mg) Ibuprofen (advil) every 4-6 hours as needed for the pain. Make sure you keep the area clean and dont chew on that side if at all possible! GOOD LUCK
Reply:If you%26#039;ve lost the broken piece, just get to the dentist. If you have it, gently shake off surface dirt and definitely keep it. Even if the piece can%26#039;t be bonded back to the original tooth, it can be used to help re-create the look of that tooth. Rinse your mouth with lukewarm water to clean the broken tooth. If available, applying a cold compress to your cheek will help reduce swelling of the affected area.

They hurt, good luck
Reply:The pain is probably because air %26amp; cold are now touching an inner surface of the tooth where the piece broke off. You can take whatever you take normally for a headache (aspirin, Tylenol, ibuprofen) for tooth pain, but it won%26#039;t stop the pain permanently. You can also try one of the OTC topical toothache remedies (like Ambesol) that you apply directly to the tooth, but they are very temporary.

Depending on how much of the tooth is left, you can try one of the temporary dental filling kits from the drugstore (like Dentemp). It has a small amount of filling that you mix up and roll in a ball and pack into the tooth. Once you get the inside of the tooth covered up, it should start to hurt less, and the pain may go completely away if you do a really good job.

Please see your dentist as soon as possible, even if what you%26#039;re doing relieves the pain. Once a tooth is open from having a piece break off, it is very susceptible to decay!
