What can I do about my teeth?

Last month half of my tooth broke off as I unknowingly bit into a popcorn kernal. I spoke with the nurse from the dentist office and she told me to have it crowned would be about $800.00 and pulled about $175.00. The thing is I've already had 4 other teeth pulled but there's no way i can afford $800.00 for the crown. I would like to keep the rest of my teeth. Anyone got any suggestions. (The reason I didnt go to a dentist before was because there was no pain, it barely just started hurting.)

What can I do about my teeth?
no no and no. they just want your money. i broke a tooth and got a permanent cap and it wasnt that much and has lasted me about 11 years. ive been doing some interested reading about enamel and all that. ill post the link. follow the directions and you can probably recalcify the broken part (granted i dont know how badly broken it is) and you wont need it pulled. it the nerves were exposed it would hurt immediately upon inahling (mine did) your is probably brusied or something. Good luck!!

i reccommend a cap, definately not extraction. get a second opinion.
Reply:Try ur local Universities, they usually charge u less.
Reply:If you broke half of the tooth it probably needs root canal therapy and then a porcelain crown. MORE MONEY!!!

If you do not want it pulled, at least see if you do need the root canal. If you do and you can afford it, get it done. If you do and you cannot afford it, you must get it pulled before the infection gets too severe. An upper arch infection can perforate the sinus wall and be fatal. A lower arch infection can eat the bone away from the roots of several teeth causing the loss of several teeth, AND, it can make the jaw susceptible to fracture.

If you have the root canal done and cannot afford a crown, have the dentist fill it with the strongest material she has but have her make the tooth a bit smaller than the teeth next to it. This allows the teeth next to it to take the brunt of your biting and chewing action so that the tooth does not break. Down the road, if you come up with some extra money, you can still have a crown. COOL?
