Broken back tooth hurts very bad?

So like 6 months ago I was eating peanut M%26amp;M's and one happened to break the second to last bottom tooth on my right side. It wasn't really a problem too much either, so I kinda tried to ignore it.

I bothered my mom about insurance, but I'm not on hers. Long story behind that, but I'm not on her insurance. I'm about to be 19, have a part-time job that will just barely pay the bills, and am in a new city with no one besides my friend.

The tooth has like the bottom left corner missing, but it's a bit bigger piece than just the corner. Lately, when I eat, there's a STRONG wave of pain that just consumes my gum and pulses. The pain also just happens randomly. Like it's kept me awake many nights to the point where I almost stuck pliers in my mouth. That bad.

Ibuprofin helps a TINY bit, but not much; even when i take 7 of them. Oragel isn't much help either. I have a feeling it's going to needed to be pulled, but I've never had to go through that.

Any tips at all help.

Broken back tooth hurts very bad?
although you probably don't wanna hear it, i guess going to a dentist would definitely be best. you can't fight toothache for a long time with Ibuprofin anyway. sorry.
Reply:Try a warm, wet tea bag (black tea, not that wimpy green tea). Place it back over the tooth and bite down very gently and hold it there for awhile. You will still need to get the thing pulled eventually, but this should help with the pain until then. The tea has tannic acid which is a very good topical pain reliever
Reply:Same thing happened to me about 4 years ago: I was eating some Ben %26amp; Jerry's Chunky Monkey ice cream, when suddenly my walnut seemed to have extra crunch and a little pain. I had broken off a chunk of my back molar.

Having no dental insurance, and no money at the time, I chose to ignore it and not eat on that side. Very gradually, the broken off bit got more broken off, and there was increased pain . .

I got some personal dental plan that didn't allow any major work until six months of paying into premiums: by the end of six months I needed a root canal and crown -- still cost me over $800.00.

But the root canal wasn't as bad as everyone says it is . . .

P.S Probably shouldn't take 7 ibuprofin at once . . .
Reply:The nerve of the tooth is infected and the only way to get it to stop hurting is to have it extracted or to do a root canal. You will need to be put on antibiotics first to get the infection to go away because the infection can cause you not to get numb. You should really think about having the root canal done if you think that you can afford it. You should always try to save your teeth. If you get the tooth extracted your other teeth will move into the space which will cause all of your teeth to shift and move. It really is important to keep your natural teeth. I know that it is hard with no insurance. Maybe your mother can help you out or you can look into some sort of credit program that most dental offices offer. Good Luck and I hope that you get out of pain soon.
