What do i do about heavily swollen gums (lLG marble size) that occurred from a broken molar before monday?

its' the second molar left size bottom row. some food must've gotten into the broken tooth and infected/irritated it. been about 6 days since it happened and the last the gums have ballooned up. feels like i have a wad of bubblegum glued to the side of my gums. it's gotten bigger each day and i'm trying the warm salt water which seems to help minimally.

as for the tooth itself, i'd say about 25-30% of it broke off on the back side so looking in my mouth you would not notice it at first glance.

the gums are very sensitive to the touch and especially so when i brush with my sonicare electric toothbrush.

is there anything i can do specifically before i get in contact with the dentist monday??

thanks to all in advance!

until the dentist appt..take a tea bag dampen with cold water and place it over the abscess, it will draw it out..the infection..I also have used a bag of ice on my jaw..it helps a lot.

If it gets real bad you need to go the the ER. they probably have a dentist on staff, if nothing else they can at least give you antibiotics and pain meds..

*next time..they make this stuff that is a temporary tooth filler in case fillings comeout. I have used it on a broken tooth with an exposed nerve..pain went away instantly. I didnt have infection yet, but I put it on right away..pain was gone instantly. I would not use with infection
Reply:Drink very cold liquids. 7/11 slurpees are good, they will help bring down the swelling. I had dental surgery and had swollen gums, but cold drinks really helped me.
Reply:you can call the dentist or your doctor and ask that s/he call the pharmacist and prescribe you some antibiotics you can take right now to get the infection down asap.
Reply:This will get worse before it gets better. The warm salt water is good, keep it up. If just a quarter to third of the tooth is broken that you can see, it means that about 75% of the tooth underneath is decayed away. This swelling will increase over night. If it gets to be walnut sized without a "pimple" forming on the gum, then seek medical/dental attention ASAP. The infections can spread internally and be rather dangerous.
