What is the best immediate step that can be taken to relieve sensitivity in a broken tooth?

The sensitivity that occurs with age can be managed with desensitizing tooth pastes etc, but acute fractured cases, i do not have any clue.!!!

What is the best immediate step that can be taken to relieve sensitivity in a broken tooth?
Get some liquid orajel (that might be spelled wrong) and some orthodontic wax (used by people who have braces) - can buy both at Wal-Mart. Dip a Q-tip into the bottle of orajel - then place it on your tooth - keep doing this till the pain stops. Then use the orthodontic wax to cover the tooth!!! Had to do this before and I couldn't get an appointment for almost three weeks to get my tooth fixed!!! Worked like a charm for me!!! Hope it helps you!!!
Reply:take a cigarette lighten it, put some sugar on the top, and try to inhale combined smoke in your nose closer to that tooth. you will shock, and nothing will trouble you for 10 minutes or much longer.
Reply:eat an ice-cream or anything cold. It really helps.
Reply:my gramma said that if u put a teaspoon of salt in as hot of a glass of water as u can put in ur mouth then rinse tooth till water is same temp as mouth then do that 2 more times even if it works the first time. tooth should b at least bearable. i tried it worked long enuff to get to dentist 2 weeks later
Reply:Go see a dentist immediately and have a temp filling or something placed in it til you can get it fxed but it should be fixed ASAP or you can end up with costly root canals and or crown lengthening depending on where it is broken and how near the gumline it is and then ultimately a crown, the longer you wait the worse it will get and more costly PLEASE go get it fixed ASAP and save yourself a couple grand.
