If a wisdom tooth had to broken to be removed, can it cause pain again years later if a piece was left in?

The wisdon tooth was wrapped around my jawbone and had to be broken apart to be removed. The nerves in my tongue were damaged at the time of the extraction. Even though I no longer have any wisdom teeth left, I'm experiencing symptoms of a wisdom tooth trying to cut through such as tender gums, jaw pain, and excruciating ear pain. The doctor says I don't have an ear infection. I'm also experiencing tingling and numbing sensations in my face and arm. I'm thinking a piece of the tooth was left in my mouth when it was broken apart and that it is now trying to cut through or perhaps it has grown into a nerve. Does anyone know if this is possible, and if so, will an x-ray show it if it is there? Going nuts needing an answer.

X- Ray should show if there was anything left after extraction.

The sensations you have experienced could be also due to the nerve damaged, but they are more typical to the damage of the inferior dental nerve (located in the lower jaw underneath the teeth), than to the nerves of your tongue. Whatever the case is - go and see the dentist.
Reply:go and see your dentist, they can give you an x-ray and they will know more than your GP. I sometimes get pain from where my wisdom teeth were, but not to that extent.

get to your dentist !
Reply:Yes, they can take an x-ray that would show if anything was left. You haven't experienced any TMJ problems such as popping of your jaw have u? That would be the only other thought, unless it is a new tooth. Very rarely people have extra teeth. Anyways, just go have it checked. Depending on the age when the tooth was taken out, if some of the cells were left/part of the tooth, it is possible it could have regrown some and now is reerupting.
Reply:go and see a dentist so they can do an x-ray asap

and put you at rest
Reply:a bit of the root could still be left in
