My teeth are very weak?

I have lupus S.L.E and fibromyalgia. I have been told by a dentis that although lupus does not attack your teeth directly but in directly it can in the sence that you have less saliva that helps keep your mouth clean. I look after my teeth and always have but my teeth are so weak yesterday I was just biting my nail (bad habit) and my tooth broke. I am seeing the dentis today. But what want to know can the lupus or fibromyalgia make somebody's teeth this weak or why is else would my teeth be this week.

You are fortunate to hav a dentist who understands this connection. He is right. I've seen this a few times (3 or 4) with SLE. I am not aware of any conncetion between fibromyalgia and tooth decay.





At least he will try to work with you instead of making you feel bad. Ask about Biotene products (available OTC) for dry mouth.

Reply:hell i dont know maybe brushin them way to much or they are rdy to come out no matter if it is a permanet tooth if it is then u will have to get a fake tooth good luck girlie
Reply:the fibromyalgia can i have it along with diabeties and my teeth are so bad. i see the dentist more now that i did 2 years ago for repairs i have to get fillings on the outside of my teeth cause a couple places are rotted and he wanted to put something there to cover it up
Reply:I too have mediocre to poor teeth. Twelve crowns (see what I mean). I also have Rheumatoid Arthritis and the ra is attacking my fingernails and toenails. I have lost 5 this past year. Teeth and nails are both made up of dentin aren't they?





I think these are all auto immune diseases.





Some years ago I snapped off my two front teeth biting into a plum. Go figure.
Reply:First, ask your dentist for advice. He is your best resource at the moment. The two diseases you mention attack the immune system which can cause a whole slew of secondary problems in the body. It seems that no one is alike when it comes to these secondary issues so prediction becomes difficult.





For example, I have Crohn's disease which is an autoimmune disease. Some of the secondary problems are arthritis, skin lesions, mouth ulcers and eye inflamation. I get the arthritis and mouth ulcers but not the other two. Some people can eat whatever they want during remission, but raw veggies would put me in the ER.





So you see, these types of diseases affect people differently. The important thing now is for you to take steps to minimize the damage done to your teeth. That's where your dentist comes in. . .
